Civically Engaged Youth in the Americas: September 20
Chapin Hall is a co-sponsor of "Civically Engaged Youth in the Americas: A Three City Perspective - Chicago, Mexico City and Rio de Janeiro" on September 20 in Chicago. The conference is hosted by the Latin American and Latino Studies Program at the University of Illinois at Chicago and will include presentations about youth activism by professors, youth organizers, and youth. The event stems from a comparative study undertaken by three researchers, including Chapin Hall Faculty Associate Maria de los Angeles Torres.
Chapin Hall Executive Director Matthew Stagner will give the welcoming remarks and Research Fellow Robert Chaskin will offer

Challenges Faced in Implementing School Readiness Program
To improve the school readiness of low-income children, Palm Beach County, Florida, launched a program to identify children's needs and provide early intervention services to support physical, cognitive, and emotional health and development. This Chapin Hall report examines the challenges of implementing the program, its progress in engaging key stakeholders, and its impact on the school readiness of children enrolled in the program.

Monitoring Outcomes of Preventive Services
Earlier this year, the New York City Administration for Children's Services launched a new initiative to build coalitions of community organizations with the goal of improving outcomes for children served by the child welfare system. In a new essay, Chapin Hall Research Fellow Fred Wulczyn suggests steps needed to meet the challenging task of monitoring preventive services delivered by private providers. In the case of New York, he urges a clear focus on outcomes, with
attention to both the process and quality of care. Monitoring success, he argues, depends in part on understanding performance within the context of the communities they serve.
