Audio Recording: What Happens to Children After Immigration Raids?
Speakers at the Thursday's Child public policy forum on November 8, in Washington, D.C., discussed the impact of workplace immigration raids on the children of detained adults. University of Chicago professor Robert LaLonde discussed characteristics of immigrant workers and children and their effect on the economy.
Other panelists discussed which branch of government--federal, state, or local--should be responsible for caring for these children and the challenges of providing services to them.

Audio Recording: Systems and Strategies for Effective Urban Schools
Chapin Hall held a special Thursday's Child forum in Chicago on October 18, to discuss how schools, intermediary organizations, social services, and the school district can work together to improve educational outcomes for students in urban schools. Chapin Hall Research Fellow Cheryl Smithgall discussed barriers to learning faced by children in urban schools, particularly children in foster care.

Initiative Strengthens Network of Juvenile Justice and Substance Abuse Treatment Systems
The Reclaiming Futures initiative was designed to improve substance abuse interventions for young offenders by improving cooperation among juvenile justice and substance abuse treatment systems. Researchers at Chapin Hall and the Urban Institute analyzed patterns of interaction among key agencies in eight communities that implemented the Reclaiming Futures initiative. The study found that the strength of such social networks increased over time in these communities.
